A person looking to transfer to Duke

Hey, I wanted to see whether there were any Duke students or potential Duke students that could give me an idea on where I might stand in the admissions process come spring of 2011. I am currently a rising sophomore at a school in the south. I am looking to transfer due to a lack of contentment with my school. I am looking at majoring in philosophy with a concentration in politics, philosophy, and economics at Duke if I do get accepted my junior year. I am also Haitian and I am greatly intrigued by both their Middle Eastern and Caribbean studies program, which has my home country at its heart. Then, there is of course more challenges at Duke both academically and just plain mentally. I just want to see my preliminary chances at getting accepted. By the way I also have a 3.7 G.P.A.

Speaking as a transfer student myself, transfer admissions at Duke is going to require a lot of luck. This past year, they accepted about 5-10% of applicants for transfer. I don’t think you are any less qualified than any one else, although you didn’t give us that much information besides numbers (and it would help if you would give your current school as well… your identity is anonymous anyway). I encourage you to apply, but you will really have to work hard on your application.
