My mom got a letter two days ago and hasn’t gotten her debit card. We got a check on May 16 and got a letter this week.
Got a debit card 2 days ago. Not psyched by it. Want to check the balance to be sure it is correct but don’t want to have to pay to do so. Also realized that DS, 18, didn’t get any $.
An 18 year old dependent child would not get any money. That’s the way the CARES act was written.
I read something yesterday that the cards were sent rather than checks to people processed through the Austin and ??? tax offices (I think it was another A name, maybe Albany?). If you hadn’t received a direct deposit and don’t have another account with direct deposit (SS, SSI, etc) then the IRS doesn’t have your deposit info. They do not take it off a check you send in with a payment.
@twoinanddone I live in New England. Our paper tax returns used to be sent to Albany. They are now sent to Ogden Utah. IIRC, that has been the case for a couple of years.
I have direct deposit through SS…but my husband does not (not collecting SS yet). Because the tax refunds and any stimulus payments would be for both of us, I don’t believe they will use MY SS Direct deposit information.
And like I said…I’m pretty sure we didn’t qualify…but that’s a whole other story.
Andover and Austin processing centers for EIP debit cards.
Well, we got the letter today.
Guess if I had thrown the card away when it arrived, I would know I would need to replace it.
My family member called the EIP list card toll free number and was told no card in that name was issued.
I suggested an IRS login & they discovered a check was scheduled to be mailed in mid-May. That was not received, but the letter was. Bizarre.
I knew it was two A cities. There are different cities if you get a refund or if you send in a check (for Colorado, that’s Ogden UT (no check) and Cincinnati OH (check)) for a 1040.
That being said, my sister got a debit card and I don’t know whether she sent a check or got a refund, but either way her return didn’t go to Austin or Andover. There really is no figuring it out. My brother went to the non-filer page yesterday and it asked if he wanted a DD, check, or debit card.
My D (24) has not received anything. She did get her refund direct deposited in April. Still hoping it arrives this month as we have a large bill for an ER visit to pay.
My D is in the same predicament. Direct deposit of her refund in mid April, no stimulus check, deposit, or card.
My letter came over the weekend - so about a week after the debit card.
My mother lives overseas and got a paper check in the mail last week. Now she is trying to figure out the best way to cash it while avoiding fees.
My wife was talking to a friend and neighbor yesterday who got a debit card in the mail, thought it was junk and destroyed it. oops!
I don’t know what the official debit card stimulus envelope looks like, but I get some pretty glitzy campaign stuff in the mail that includes a plastic “membership card” so I can certainly see how people could get confused.
Thought I would provide an update from my mom …
When I plugged my dad’s info in back in May, the website said that the check would be sent to my mom the next day, just as it did for me. Well, I got mine a day later, but my mother never got hers. We knew that the fact that my dad died in early March could be a complicating factor. About a month ago, she got a letter with my dad marked “deceased” saying that she would get a debit card. But she never got anything, so yesterday she sat on hold for more than an hour with the IRS, and they are now going to send her a check for $1,200. She is satisfied with that.
It is now passed the date to log onto the ‘where’s my stimulus’ pages, but my brother did it in June and got his deposit 3-4 weeks later. It went to a debit card he hold (not the government debit card) as he could input a bank routing number and account. The glitch he had was the money showed up and then they froze his account. I think it was deposited with an ACH hold on a Saturday and the money was released on Wed. By then, the card issuer had frozen the entire account. He finally got it released on Friday after several calls to the IRS and the American Express (his card holder).
There are now issues with checks going to accounts of people in nursing homes. Sometimes those accounts are controlled by the nursing home, and the homes take all the money deposited except for $50 or so for incidentals (usually the person is on medicaid or a vet program). The question is who gets this money? It’s not income, it’s a future tax credit. Relatives want the money. The facilities want the money. The clients/patients often aren’t allowed to have that much money in their accounts or they might lose other benefits.
D2 continues to be stuck in Payment Status Not Available.
My S is also stuck in Payment Status Not Available mode. He called the IRS; was told to call back in October.
Oh my. October!
Perhaps I’ll have my D call the IRS too.
You might have thrown out your stimulus payment. Treasury is sending a letter to tell you how to get it back.
Treasury is again trying to convince people that their stimulus debit card was not a scam

My D hasn’t received her stimulus payment. No payment status available.
I know she wants her money now, but if it stretches to Oct or later, might as well claim it as a credit on the 2020 taxes.
