Why does the IRS website asked people to enter the ITIN if they weren’t eligible to begin with?
I’m pretty sure we either owe or, if not, we carry forward, each year, any refund as estimated taxes., so no history of them depositing to our account, only us paying from our account. No money received here.
We qualify and have not received our direct deposit stimulus payment either. Like others, we always get “payment status unavailable.” So frustrating. My S filed his 2019 taxes last week as he had never filed before, and he already received his tax refunds as well as his stimulus direct deposit.
I got onto the web site on Tuesday and successfully entered our direct deposit info. Just checked and got this message:
I believe I read that the payments are being made once a week?
@Nhatrang "Why does the IRS website asked people to enter the ITIN if they weren’t eligible to begin with? ". I have no idea. Maybe for the exception for military spouses. You would have to ask the IRS about that (good luck with that). If you do a search for the eligibility rules you will see that the rules very specifically say you must have a SS# except for the one exception. I’m a green card holder with a SS# and am a resident so am eligible. If I did not have a SS# or ws not a resident I would not be eligible.
On the other hand, I’m pretty sure deceased persons are not eligible and some appear to be getting it.
Still can’t get into the website. Sigh.
@garland I’ve about given up. It’s so frustrating. As a tax preparer I wish I could figure out the answer cause we have clients asking and I can’t help them (or myself)
Really? That stinks. We also had to mail ours as a paper copy because of a numbers glitch. So…what are they doing with all the mailed in forms? Just letting them pile up?
Guess it’s going to be a long time before we get our refund…a really long time.
@garland, I haven’t been able to get into the site either. “Not enough information to determine eligibility”. Filed using TurboTax.
I just checked my bank. My economic impact payment is pending for release on 4/22. I think your bank will tell you quicker than the tracker.
Yes, they are releasing it on two more days in April. The 22nd and 28th.
Haven’t released any dates in May or beyond afaik.
My daughter who makes close to the max for singles received her money in the first waive. A friend who makes over $100k but is HOH was the first one I know to get the ACH posted to her account last Friday.
A number of sites (including politicians’ sites on .gov domains as well as news and personal finance sites) indicate that the checks will be issued in reverse AGI order. But this is referring to the paper checks, not the direct deposits.
My daughter received her stimulus check. She is currently furloughed but has savings and will get unemployment. Her bills are low.
Anyways, she would like to donate her stimulus check once she gets back to work. But wonders if she should save some of it to pay any taxes incurred.
Will taxes need to be paid on the stimulus check? I didn’t know the answer, I was sure someone would know the answer.
No taxes need to be paid on the stimulus $.
They no longer have the machine to mass print checks. They expect it will take a while. Reverse order makes sense.
I read somewhere it won’t be taxable but I had an impression not everything is sorted out yet. All this is happening rather fast. They said they wanted to get money to people asap and expect errors inevitable.
It’s not taxable. It’s basically a refundable tax credit.
Anyone who does not get what they are entitled to now will be able to get what they are due when they file their 2020 return. For instance if you had a baby in 2020 you won’t get the extra $500 now but will get it when you file 2020.
People who get more than they are eligible for supposedly will not have to repay it.
We filed 2018 -paper forms printed out & mailed in because DH doesn’t trust online payments. We owed. Have not filed 2019 yet. Will owe again. Thought we would use this money to pay those taxes-
BUT, we also moved in August so, they don’t have our new address. Ugh. We may never get at check…
@swimcatsmom please give documentation of where you read this. I had heard that there were discussions about 2020, but nothing had been decided.
Curious if anyone that has received the Payment Status Not Available message previous, were you ever able to get information on a later try?
The first day I tried too many times for my husband, so got the message to wait 24 hours. I am still not getting past this screen for my husband and I or my daughter. While my husband thinks the IRS has our bank information, we haven’t received a refund in 7 years, so who knows. I am guessing we will get a mailed check something in the near future.
I keep wondering if the IRS having a taxpayer’s bank account to debit for payment is actually working the same as having their direct deposit info. I realize it’s the same info - routing and account numbers. However, everything I have read on irs.gov or accounting sources explicitly references “direct deposit” info.
I’m not re-reading all 6 pages of this thread, but I don’t recall seeing posters who had paid with their bank info on 2018 or 2019 and also received their stimulus payment.
95% of my clients with refunds have them direct deposited. There are some who don’t want to list that info on their tax return (like IRS didn’t already know it?). Now, long after their return is e-filed, they want me to “fix it”, so their dd info is shown.
I also question whether the Get My Payment site is truly updated only every 24 hours. They always say that annually for the Where’s My Refund site, too. In my experience, that isn’t true. I wonder if they are really just trying to slow site traffic.
