Yes, I think we all know that. What I’m observing is that the people who owed and paid through the bank have not gotten the money yet, as opposed to those who got a refund who have gotten the deposit.
As I said in the OP, I’m trying to read tea leaves to find out why some of those who qualify didn’t get it yet, and also why those same folk can’t get an answer from the “where’s my check” website, and having owed in the past rather than been refunded has surfaced as a common scenario.
This reminds me of students trying to suss out whether they are accepted through back doors like the weight of a package or being able to sign up for housing.
Me? Payment Status Unavailable. Qualify, owed $ in 2019.
My oldest got the same message as @garland stated in the first post. She was not happy! She qualifies based on her 2018 income tax return for at least a partial amount.
Are those who got the money people who qualified for the entire $1200.00.
Other two kids haven’t received anything yet nor have they gone online to check.
My S filed a 2019 return using H&R Block online, and has already received his refund. However he has not received a stimulus payment. Discovered that because he told Block to take his tax preparation fee from his return, IRS doesn’t actually have his direct deposit info, only Block has it.
He went into IRS site to try to add his bank info but received the dreaded ‘Not Enough Info’ message or whatever it is. So it doesn’t appear that he will be able to give his bank info to IRS, and that means payment won’t magically appear. I guess he’ll have to wait and hope for a paper check? We double checked that he was not listed as our dependent in 2019 so no reason for him not to get a payment.
He paid $35 for that “privilege”. I highly suggest people don’t allow H&R Block, Turbo Tax ($40!) and other tax prep companies to take their fees out because it results on another fee. Better to pay those fees by credit card if you can.
3rd day in a row of getting “Payment Status Not Available”. The only reason I can come up with is that I had to mail in our 2019 return and maybe it’s not processed yet, although they have our 2018 info. I mailed it in a month ago (no thanks to Turbotax who couldn’t resolve an issue on a form so I had to override their calculation. This meant having to mail the return instead of efiling which is what I expected to do).
One more reason to not like Turbotax. I guess this means it’ll be a very long time til we get our stimulus check. Why can’t they just use our 2018 return?
@MaterS I had read that in the news but am not sure how true it really is. My son and Dil got theirs the first day and their AGI was high last year - near the cut off. He was very surprised to get it that day as he had assumed he would get it later.
Well we still can’t get into the stupid IRS site. It’s very frustrating. I know we qualify but owed LY so wanted to add our DD info but can’t get past the insufficient information message. I thought the whole point of the site is to be able to enter that information. It’s ridiculous.
Then why the IRS website allows people to enter either the SS or ITIN?
She did pay taxes, both 2018 and 2019. She texted me her tax forms. I sorted of assumed she didn’t file taxes but she did, said her immigration lawyer told her to ALWAYS file taxes even if she doesn’t make much. I entered all the info on the IRS site and it said payment status not available.
I wonder if anyone knows any body who isn’t a US citizen or green card holder got their check…
Even though we haven’t gotten our payment, and probably won’t for months, S2 got his DD’d this week. He’s an independent adult who efiled his return and IRS had his info since he got a refund. He needs the $ more than we do.
@Nhatrang You must have a valid SS and be either a US citizen or a resident alien to get it. That is specifically laid out in the rules. (There is an exception to do with spouses of US military).
You can add me as another data point that seems consistent with others.
No stimulus money. Qualify for almost the complete amount. (Our AGI was just over the threshold for the full amount.) Filed in 2018 using TurboTax and owed a small amount. Have not filed in 2019 (because I owe a small amount again so I’m waiting until July).
IRS says “Payment Status Not Available” which seems to be pretty meaningless.
