I have a kind of interesting and pressing question right now. Right now, it’s basically between Michigan and Northwestern as to where I’ll be next year, and I really don’t have any interest in going to Michigan State anymore. I’m planning on withdrawing my acceptance from State so that somebody else can still have a chance to get it. However, I’ve been told that I should send in the $200 deposit so that my place can be reserved and final at Michigan so that I am 100% positive that I have a place to go next year when I withdraw from State. However, there’s still a chance that I might not be at Michigan next year (pending on whatever Northwestern says in March). Would Michigan absolutely begin hating me if I end up pulling out in March? I know that the $200 isn’t refundable after it’s submitted, but that’s not really an issue as long as I have somewhere to be next year. Also, would Northwestern hate me if I take this route (I’m posting this in both boards so…)? I really want to be on good terms with both of them since i love both of them (no matter what happens).

Also, how do you say to a school that you won’t be joining them the next year? I feel horrible (It’ll be even worse if I end up having to say no to Michigan or Northwestern).

Oh yeah, I’m really sad about Michigan’s loss in the Rose Bowl.

Well it doesn’t really matter when you send in your deposit as long as it is by the deadline. They can’t suddenly withdraw your acceptance for no credible reason. And the deadline isn’t until after you would hear from Northwestern so just wait till you hear from them.

Don’t you have until May to respond to either school about where you’re going next fall? I thought that was how it worked.

The only reason you might consider sending in a deposit earlier is to reserve housing…but I wouldn’t worry about “hurting a colleges feelings”…they won’t hate you…

Jeez. I really can’t sleep tonight.

Yes. I do have until May to decide. However, I’ve heard about some bad tales where people have getten accepted and still didn’t get a spot because something went wrong (They don’t necessarily concern Michigan but…). Plus, there is a slight issue about the housing as well as getting into an early orientation (gotta reserve the right classes before everyone else fills them).

Actually, Michigan State people might begin hating me after next weekend. Let’s just say Northwestern will be in East Lansing and playing them in basketball and that I’m going to the game. I’m also not going to be supporting State (I feel no shame whatsoever). I’m hoping to be able to take at least one of my friends with me so that I, at least, have some sort of protection.

This is actually very funny to me. When I was little, I baisically raised off of Michigan State, and now I like Michigan and Northwestern more than them. My loyalties have officially shifted.

okay, a little update. I’m officially not sending in the deposit until after I hear from NU in March. I haven’t done it yet because I thought that it would be wiser if I asked someone that worked in admissions what admissions people thought about this issue (for my personal mental well being), and the answer was basically to not do it. Let’s just say that it’s not really looked upon too highly. So, for me, sending in the deposit would be a negative.
