I’m going to go to an on-campus smmer interview at William & Mary.
My father insists that I should take recommendation letters with me to the interview, but I’m not convinced.
I don’t understand why I have to have recommendation letters at the interview, even though I’m going to send them later with my application forms.

According to the official site of William & Mary, the interview is something that is “Optional, evaluative components that may be added to an application include” and provides " a unique opportunity for rising high school seniors to add a three-dimensional component to their application and to sit down, one-on-one, with a current student and ask any questions they might have."

My father and I both live in Japan, so we don’t know the systems in colleges in the U.S.
It would be really nice if someone can tell us which of us is right.

Thank you

Not necessary. They will just ask you questions. They will already see your letters of recommendation when they look at your application; they won’t care about seeing them twice.

There is an FAQ snuck in the interview portion of the admissions website. Though it doesn’t refer to rec letters, it seems unlikely they want them.
“Should I bring any materials?
Please do not bring transcripts, course schedules, testing reports or resumes to the interview. Such academic records are only evaluated during the normal application review process.”

Thank you so much both of you ^^

I actually just had my interview at William and Mary exactly a week ago. It’s pretty casual, so your recommendation letters are not necessary-in fact, they tell you not to bring any transcripts or things of that sort. They also tell you to dress casually, especially if you are going on a tour. I wore a casual dress (nothing fancy, but clean and appropriate) and it was pretty much what everyone else was wearing-none of the guys were wearing suits or anything either.

The interview is awesome. You’ll have a very nice senior conducting it, and they’ll just ask you a bunch of questions. Mine made me feel on top of the world; she was so nice! A boy I met there said something similar as well. Don’t be nervous; it’s just like a regular conversation with a person who wants to know about you.

I hope I helped! If you have any other questions about the W&M tour/interview/info session, feel free to ask since I was just there.
