During my freshman year in a high school, I got a F on dancing (performing arts) and a C on Biology. It didn’t jeopardize my GPA though since I retook it and got As.

If I will major in computer science, would this hurt me to get into Ivys and Stanford?

First of all, most colleges dont take freshman grades seriously. Besides if you retook it, it shouldnt matter.

SeattleBulldog is wrong. While freshman grades may not be AS important as the other years, colleges DO look at them and they affect your GPA just as much as junior year. Honestly for most ivies and stanford that WOULD be a dealbreaker. If your transcript says you failed a class and had to retake it and got a C in a major subject area like biology, that could hurt you tremendously. If you had AMAZING EC’s and a very high test score it would not matter, but unless almost every other part of your application is above average, it would be a dealbreaker in my semi-informed opinion. Maybe if you had all A’s in your other classes, but if get a ton of B’s as well, your grades would keep you out.

What did your dancing class consist of and why did you get an F? I’m intrigued.

To be honest, I think if you have a strong application besides these two grades, it won’t be that big of a deal. Colleges view applications holistically, so, in my opinion, one (or two) bad grades won’t directly lead to a rejection. I am confused- because you retook the classes and got As, what shows up on your transcript?

ivybound1: I was in an IB school during my freshman year and was obligated to take all of the curriculum it offered, which included performing arts (dancing), visual arts, chem, physics, biology, math, additional math, … about 13 subjects. I know it was harsh for freshmen but that was the rule haha…
Stewta4: Do you think if I write that on my personal essay it would increase the chance?
Seattlebulldog: Hopefully, I hope you are right for this man.

you only retake it if u get a D or F right?
not C

not C. I would rather take more college classes at a community college than retaking classes
