A question about sorority dances

OK - I know NOTHING about this.

My son’s girlfriend has just joined a sorority and they are having a semi-formal dance. Does he need to buy her flowers? And if so, what do girls like? (This is the disadvantage to not going to the proms!)

Yes, flowers are nice. I suggest a wrist corsage.

Yes, wrist corsage. Think three tiny roses with some baby’s breath and ribbon. It should match or coordinate with her dress. Usually the florist will make up whatever you want.

My son went to several formal dances last spring (as a high school senior) – I used both a ‘real’ florist and the supermarket florist – happy with both. The florists can also give advice on what people are doing for dance corsages …

for college bring flowers, not a corsage. Corsages are very highschool prom.

ec1234:
What do you mean, “bring flowers?” Like what? A loose bouquet? Maybe I’ll call the florist near there and inquire.

Thanks everybody!

Your son should find out what the custom was last year, that is, what if anything the boys got for the girls and what they wore for this specific sorority’s semiformal. Semiformal is actually a rather large gray area and practices probably differe from school to school and region to region.

I can only speak for where I went to school and our sorority formals and semi-formals, but no one received corsages. They were considered to be a high school thing. Actually, not many people received flowers at all, but we certainly would have been thrilled and it would have made a great impression!

Have your son’s girlfriend ask the older sisters in the sorority what to do.

Good idea about asking the older girls. Sometimes they just get a little small bouquet. The florist will know what is being ordered.

yeah, either a bouquet or just a single rose or something. Although if its a semi-formal and not a formal flowers are optional in general

this is very local - he is just going to have to ask himself.

OK – This is too hard. I told him to figure it out for himself. I’m outta here!
