Hi! I’m thinking of creating a website to support parents who want to teach their high school-aged kids about personal finance—topics like budgeting, student loans, and saving for retirement. I want to provide resources for parents who are trying to help their kids build healthy money habits and grow up to be financially independent adults.
What do you think of this idea? Would you or parents you know find this useful? What would you change?
There are websites out there that offer this type of information for free.
Is it a senior project kind of idea? As long as you are not going to give specific investing advice and as long as you cite your sources properly and do not steal anyone’s copyrighted material…why not.
How would what you offer be any different from what is already out there?
this should be a required course in HS. any education funded by the state or federal government has a responsibility to do this. parents do too, but there should be no question that if we are going to spend tax dollars on education the students should be taught about money
Ohio has a financial literacy requirement - only one of mine had one of the “required” classes - it was the first year it was required I think and not very helpful - hopefully it has improved by now…

Clark Howard’s website has been doing this for years, along with Dave Ramsey.
