a quick question about the AMC

I am just wondering if I can take the AMC even if I am not on my school’s math team?

Most schools administer the test to a whole class, not just a subset.

Regardless, you can contact Mathematical Association of America that adminsters the AMC8, 10 and 12 to find alternative sites to take the test if your school does not offer it.

What’s AMC, anyway?

well, my school does offer the AMC, but the problem is that I had to choose between math team and AP Bio. I chose AP Bio.

AMC stands for the American Math Competitions. For more on this check out this site:

Anybody can take the AMC.

the AMC people want as many students as possible to take the exam. I wouldn’t think your school would restrict them to math team members, but you’ll want to let the test administrator (possibly the teacher who is in charge of the math team) know you’re interested early in the year so they have an accurate head count when they order exams, and so that you get any announcements about it.
