<p>For the 2nd time in the past year our community has lost a young college student. In both cases the students were walking at night after midnight near their universities with friends. Both struck and killed by automobiles. One by a drunk driver who was 23, the other by a couple who did not even stop.
Our kids need to be careful that they are able to be seen when they are out walking at night. My younger D realized that her and her friends have been so stupid walking on our rural roads from one friend to another. She said we were so stupid. I think the loss of this young man who she knew plus the realization as she begins driving that it is very difficult to see people walking at night.
Also we should remind our kids that they should always have some form of ID on them.
I know my own college age son travels at night by skateboard or bikes from his apartment on campus to friend’s houses who live off campus.</p>
