In general. I know you need to know the colleges in order to assess but when you look at it what do you consider it to be? How will it fair against the Ivies or will it demolish Tier 2 and Tier 3 schools? lol anything that pops up just answer. Best Answer up for grabs

eh not really good for ivies at all, yea demolish tier 2 and tier 3 schools. Go into US NEWS RANKINGS TOP COLLEGES google it…that scores is really good for schools ranked like say 45 and up

I’m pretty sure every college takes a holistic approach. Standardized test scores are not the only factor in admissions.

hmmm…lol

It might be that the SAT is just not your cup of tea and that you would do much better at the ACT. Give it a try.

This is not a disastrous SAT score but it is probably not good enough for top schools unless there is something really compelling elsewhere in your application.

SAT alone, you have no chance.

Top colleges ARE holistic, but there are enough applicants applying that elite schools could fill their class 3 times over with students who are both high test-takers and have great EC’s and the like.

The SAT is like a qualifier, in general, if you have around a 2150 or above, your SAT’s will never pose a problem and won’t be a deciding factor, even at places like Harvard. However when you fall below that qualifying range, whatever it may be for a particular college, then you have to be pretty outstanding to convince the committee that you are above and beyond.

Generally, an 1890 would be lower Tier 1, places like George Washington, Syracuse, Fordham, Boston University, Pepperdine, etc. But, like I said, the rest of your app plays a huge role, it’s not just scores.

VERY enlightening… what contradictory answers, hehe how some immeadiately dismiss n others bring in the ‘holistic’ approach. Ahh if we only truly knew how addmission officers really would react to and consider this score… hmm 1890?

They r not gonna toss it out my scores is 1900 but if the rest of ur app is bland and avg with above avg gpa then ur screwd

For Ivies, Unless you have a major hook, I’d say you’re hopeless.

For tier 2/3, you have a very decent chance.

“The SAT is like a qualifier, in general, if you have around a 2150 or above, your SAT’s will never pose a problem and won’t be a deciding factor, even at places like Harvard.
These comments make relatively underachieve people like me on this board very happy.

I keep hearing 2250, or 2300. But hey, it’s just a number right? ;)

same is true for internationals?

hmm… im now looking at the us news’ “national universities rankings” and it says that clark university, MA, is tier 1.
clark u accepted me with a score of 1490 last year oO i mean, 1490, an overall score.
weird --

Holistic approach works if your application is not immediately thrown out in the first round evaluating scores and GPA…

I’d retake. Obviously you’re a sophomore or junior (or lower) so you have time. Take time to study your weak sections and practice…

Regarding Elvy’s question:

I believe so. I even think it’s getting harder and harder for internationals to get in. But, I don’t have experience in this — I might be wrong.

wow! Isn’t Clark like really good? top 100 i assume? hmmm…lol… 1890?
