A Second Chance?

I just had a question
If one got rejected EA from a school (say Stanford or Caltech or some dream school)
What happens if they try to apply again?
Like make a whole new account and try with different essays because they feel like they screwed up
Can they go to jail? Or at least get fined or something?

You cannot reapply in the same year.

how do colleges prevent re-applying?

I suppose they might take your application fee. But it will just result in an automatic reject. You don’t really think colleges will not notice that you applied in the early round?

What do you mean, a new account with different essays? College applications are not social media. You can’t change your name or school record. They will know who you are.

How would you fake your school reports? Lie?

And if you somehow managed to slip an application by them, you can live the rest of your life worried that the deception will be discovered and have your diploma rescinded.

Honestly, move on. No one school is worth obsessing over.

yup… I got rejected by Stanford… now hoping for the best with the UCs/other schools

Basically, you can’t reapply the same year, and your odds the following year are almost nil because Stanford isn’t going to say “Ooops, how did we miss THAT kid, we made a big mistake!”
It’s far healthier to focus on other colleges. Some have ED2, start looking into them, run the NPC with your parents to see if they’re affordable, and find the perfect fit that’ll love you back.

Adding on to this… find schools that sort of match the school you got rejected from. The qualities of Caltech for instance can be reflected in MIT (another reach school), Purdue (depending on your major), or Rose Hulman (for engineering). This is obviously just an example, but you could approach it from this perspective as well.

If a college rejected you in the early round, it means that they do not believe you would be admitted in the regular round. If you were deferred, then it is possible that they college saw you are a potential regular round admit, but not a clear enough admit to admit you early. Of course, some colleges defer all early non-admits, so a deferral could mean that you could be in the “clear reject” group as well as the “maybe admit” group at those colleges.

So there is no point in reapplying for that college’s regular round even if you could.

It’s doubtful you could do that anyway, because your profile is matched up with your SSN, DOB, etc. The system would most likely stop you before you got past the first page. That being said, please make sure your focus is on target and safety schools. Most UCs are reach schools. If you set the bar too high, you might get rejected from everything, or end up getting accepted into a school you can’t afford.

I suppose they can’t stop you from sending in another application and payment.

But as soon as your identifying information shows a match to another application, they’ll just send it right back to you.
