I have a nephew at CSU Channel Islands and one of the things he has commented on a LOT is how much like a private school if feels. Because it’s small, the professors have time to take more interest in the students and the beautiful environment (not far from the beach, in the foothills) is very relaxing.

I don’t personally know anything about CSU Monterey Bay, but I know it’s a very small school, which might also give you that “private school” feel, although I think their selection of majors might still be rather limited because it’s new.

Hello fellow Fresnan!

I just popped in to recommend you checking out CSU Monterey Bay. Their majors are a little different…they’re very focused on community involvement and their priority seems to be producing a well-rounded student. I definitely got a different vibe from them than other CSUs, and of course the location is hard to beat. If dorms are a worry for you, use caution. They have some awesome new dorms or apartments on campus, but the ones I toured used to be Army barracks, and still very much look like Army barracks.

If you can’t transfer until next fall I HIGHLY recommend enrolling in some spring classes at FCC, or picking up some volunteer work or something. Sitting around for a year isn’t going to look great when you apply. If you can’t stand City check out Willow International instead.
