I just graduated high school in June and was planning to go to a private university. Well turns out once I declared that private university they said I needed a loan of $12,000 (before they said my financial aid covered it). So I couldn’t go and now I am home everyday doing nothing basically >_> . Anyways I live in Fresno and DO NOT want to go to Fresno State. My brother is a Junior there…and I absolutely hate it. It’s huge, lacks educational atmosphere, teachers don’t teach well (one of his teachers invited the class to a marijuana seminar…), and it’s a party school (they have this thing called condom day…they give out free condoms and have sex jepordy). As you can see education is very important to me and I want an educational atmosphere. (reason why I wanted a private university, but due to money I cannot attend one). I really want to go to a CSU for Spring semester (I applied to Stanislaus State already…how is that school? It seemed really nice by appearance. But only appearance is what I know from it) and I want that CSU to be as close to a private school atmosphere as possible. Also I want to major in English.

Please someone help me! I did do my research but someone with personal experience and knows of colleges is who I need to hear from. I was also interested in Channel Islands since it’s so small, but really I need personal experience from people who attend/have attended CSU’s or has a family member/friend ect.

Is it too late to attend community college for this semester?
Have you ever visited CSU Chico? It has a great campus feel.

I don’t like community college, I have the qualifications to go to a 4 year so that’s what I’m going to do :).
I’ve heard of CSU Chico, never visited it though.
I should check it out,

What are you going to do with your free time this fall?
What are the CSU application deadlines for Spring 2012 enrollment?

Basically right now I do nothing…sometimes I go with my mum to work and help her but that’s it ;;.
I don’t know when the deadlines are, I think it depends on the CSU.
Because in August I applied to Stanislaus and they MIGHT accept for Spring.
Most CSU’s aren’t even sure if they are letting in freshman for spring ;;
I know for a fact Fresno State isn’t.
With all the budget cuts and government issues…I don’t think a lot are D;.
I know Stanislaus plans to increase their tuition again in January too.

They are making it so hard for people to get an education ;_;

I have no personal knowledge. But another poster on a different thread highly recommended Cal State Channel Islands. [California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) - Camarillo, CA, USA](http://www.csuci.edu/)

Thanks you two
I’m going to call CSU Chico and Channel Islands.
The benefit of Stanislaus is that they have really nice dorms _
4 bedrooms each single, and you have a living room and double sink bath.
I’ve seen a video of Chico’s dorms…they looked like prison cells D;
But maybe there are options?

Edit- Just called Channel Islands and they aren’t taking freshman for spring ;_; now for Chico…
Chico isn’t either…

I think my best bet is just to pray that Stanislaus accepts from Spring ;_;

You might find the CSU Mentor website helpful.
It’s a great starting point for finding out about housing options on a certain campus, for example.
Have you thought about going back to your HS college counselor for help?

Or just hold out for fall rather than going to a place that won’t work as well for you in the long run?

I think I am just going to see how it turns out with Stanislaus (Since I already applied).
If I don’t like it then I can always transffer right?

Well you can, but having to reestablish yourself may not be that easy. I would decide if I actually like Stanislaus before going there. YMMV.

I know San Francisco State is accepting freshman for Spring 2012…but do not know if application deadline has passed.

I like Stanislaus, the atmoshphere felt nice and I have a friend going there
I guess I am just a little hesitant since it’s far away from home and I cannot come home every weekend.
And since it’s far from home I want it to be ideal >.<

But yeah Stanislaus seems good, it’s so small only 9,000 students.
And the dorms so spacious!
I just wanted feedback from other colleges as well, just incase :)

But I decided to go for Stanislaus I think it’s best and since I know someone going there already.

Thanks everyone
CSU chico does look gorgeous though!

CSU Sonoma has one of the smallest student population within CSU. Also, it prides itself as a liberal arts college.

You should check out their campus, it is supposed to be beautiful.

If you don’t like party schools, stay far far FAR away from CUS Chico. Its infamous for being a party school.

Now, Channel Islands is okay.

However… it also depends on what your majoring in also…

And yeah Fresno State is a dump lol

I’m majoring in English :)

Yeah I was searching up reviews of Chico and read that it was known for parties.
It’s pretty but yeah, I cannot party >.<

I really like CSU Sonoma.
I also always wanted to live in Sonoma too!

You will find on any college campus that there are students who choose to party and students who do not. The CSU schools are large enough to have student groups of every kind so that you can make friends with people who share your interests.
I would encourage you to visit the schools you are considering and sit in on classes. You do not want to choose the place you will learn for four years based on one friend attending or one dorm on campus.

I would also not worry so much about what the dorms are like. My S’s (pricey) private school had the dumpiest dorms I’ve ever seen. His room freshman year was so small it only fit the beds bunked, one dresser and one desk; everything else was in the common room. The remaining years he “upgraded” to a suite meant for four, but the end of the common room was partitioned to make another bedroom. Still, he had a great undergrad experience.

alyssa i hope you know just about every college has a party scene. its all about whether or not you pick to be a part of it or not. just because a school is private doesnt mean theyre going to be just as conservative. my friends go to yale and princeton and theyre the biggest alcoholics i know.

even if you qualified to go to a four year school, you shouldn’t look down on the option of a community college. a lot of students like me chose to go to community college because it saves a lot of money. if you want to save your parents money and not have to take out loans, its definitely a great option. what i also like about cc is that i had a second chance to get into a better school. i got into UC davis as an animal science major a greatt school. (i didnt go cause i have no money haha) and there is also the ability to change majors whenever you want to. you should really look into it. its a biggg money saver

I know every school does have parties, it’s just that some have reputations of being known as party schools while some don’t. Like some have better reputatuions than others.
I know that Chico and Humboldt are know to be party schools while others not so much.

But I really started to become interested in San Marcos!
It seems really nice and I read some good reviews :3
