A Spot for Deferred Students- SHORT ESSAYS

So I was deferred early action, and as I begin the short essays I find myself wondering how much of an impact the answers to these questions can have on the admissions committee.

Obviously they are looking to see a diverse and well rounded student through these questions…but can these questions make or break a decision? How much weight do they get? For instance, can very clever, comical, and intelligent responses to these questions get a student with say a 3.0 and midrange SAT’s admitted? I certainly hope so! But I don’t have my hopes up- I know the most important thing by far and away are your stats. Does anyone know from someones’ previous experience?

Use this thread to also discuss answers to the questions. The alien question just about has me stumped. I can think of a few things but I feel like they aren’t powerful enough examples.

At the end of the day, although it feels like it is impossible to get into UGA, it is important to remember that they do have a fairly high acceptance rate and RD is much more lax than EA.

Best of luck to all!

Don’t lose hope about UGA man. I’m sure you’ll get in. I’m in the same position as you, and I just recently finished my four short essays. I still have to proofread them. I don’t know how much of an impact the essays have on your admission decision. About the alien essay, try to talk about places in your town that aliens would find fascinating. Perhaps historical places in your town would work as well, I’m assuming, or as simple as watching t.v. on your couch. Be creative with the last one especially; that’s what UGA is looking for. They are trying to define you as a unique character, and then try to determine if you’re worthy of being a UGA dawg. I’m sure we’ll get in for RD. Good luck to you!
