A student called me!

Last Saturday, a junior at UCLA called me and said that the school is interested in having me attend there. She said my SAT scores qualified me. UCLA was my first choice college like three years ago and I totally forgot about applying there. If I do not get into my first choice college do you think UCLA would be great to go to? Also, would I get a great amount of financial aid? I know Cali is kinda broke.

That’s great, I’ve actually never heard of that, but I suppose it happens. What are your first choices? As a current student, I’m biased to say that in the end it “would be great to go to.” But it IS the most applied-to university in the country for a reason. Whether or not it would be the best fit for you depends on what is important to you (social atmosphere, research opportunities, recognition in your prospective fields…)

It’s difficult to say if you’d get a “great amount” of financial aid, it depends on your stats, income, where you’re from, etc. Cali is indeed pretty broke but I know of quite a number of students receiving really great financial aid regardless (my stats were a little above average and I’m receiving about 13k/yr. which I’m grateful for) and many students are living off of outside scholarships as well. There are many opportunities for financial aid for qualified applicants.

Thanks! My first choice is Johns Hopkins. I was suprised when it happened because I had never heard of it too. I’m from Virginia and I am middle class income. Wow the most applied to school. I did not know that, but I think I would be pretty happy attending there.
