A thread for anyone to vent their frustrations or brag about finals week (Fall 2015)!

this isn’t a final but my chemistry teacher literally just gave us a 5 question test. He does his grades weirdly (an A on a test goes in as a 4, a B goes in as a 3, etc.)- it was designed to give us a chance at a higher grade but in this situation the 5 question test was weighted the same as a 50 question one which is completely unfair. You had to get every single question right to get an A and one of the questions was worded terribly so everyone missed it. On top of that he has his former students grade everything because he’s so lazy, and the one assigned to my class hates me and intentionally takes extra points off all my tests. He usually has upperclassmen make his tests as well but this time he didn’t- hence there only being 5 questions. He is way too old to be working(in his 70s) and it seems like he doesn’t even want to. Whatever, i still managed an A in that class.

Those schools all have pretty low acceptance rates, are they what you considered your safety schools? Even if you didn’t get into them, you could certainly get into a good state university. Good luck :slight_smile: @spice1234

All As so far but today was the easy day (only 1 AP, which was my easiest). Tomorrow I have finals for ap courses in math, science and history. Hope we all end up with the grades we want and expect of ourselves.

I took my Algebra 2 midterm yesterday and I’m pretty sure I did well on it, I took a health exam today and got an A. Tomorrow I have a Criminal Justice 2 (policing) test so that should be fine, and friday I have a chem and eng 3 exam. English should be easy but chem I’m a little scared for (I need an A on the exam to get an A for the semester, otherwise I get a B!)

@annana You should ask report that an upperclassmen is taking points away from you on purpose. Don’t let it just happen!

When it’s finals week, do you guys pull all-nighters or make an extra effort to get a full night’s rest? I’m debating between the 2 options at the moment

@ambitionsquared For me, it’s pull the all-nighter LOL

I’m so sleep-deprived that I’ve developed into a constant zombie. What is sleep

@HeyItsNick I tried going to the principal and she wasn’t helpful at all. Even she can’t control this guy…

@ambitionsquared I think you should manage your time so you don’t have to do either. :wink:

Just finished my last exam today so they are officially over! (Except for the pre-calc take home over break) No just awaiting grades. :-SS

Finished, now waiting on grades. Locked down all classes except for math, which I had a B+ in before the finals. The wait is excruciating lol. Good luck everybody.

I got a 99 on my Geometry final!

@ambitionsquared I just stopped caring. I got burnt out and most of my grades were safe so I didn’t have to get high scores on my finals to maintain them.
Even then I’d choose sleep over all nighters, but that’s just me :confused:

I ended up keeping my 4.0. All of my grades were between 89.5 (my teachers round) and 91, so I barely skimmed by. I hope all of you ended up doing as well as you wanted. Now onto next semester.

Mine are 20%, after break. Although in some classes, unit tests are almost worth as much. 85% of our MP grade is based on assessment grades, and some teachers only offer 2,3 tests. So 1 unit test could be worth 42.5% of a MP grade! :smiley:

My school doesn’t give extra credit, so I’m freaking out that if I bomb the finals in January, there’s no way that I can spring back from that.

@awesomepolyglot :DDD

I got only a 93 on my Algebra 2 final. :frowning:
That brought me down to a 95! Hark!

I’m so scared to get the grade back from my MVC exam. My teacher’s tests are fairly easy, so my whole class walked into the test expecting something fair and normal. It wasn’t. And it wasn’t that it was harder than what we’ve been doing (which would have been fine), it was that half of the exam was a weird throwback to the end of Calc BC that we hadn’t touched on this year, so we have no excuse to not know it but also had no reason to study it. Ah… needed a 93 to keep my grade, but I’m pretty sure that didn’t happen.

To all of you that are doing (or have completed) AP Calculus AB/BC, how hard is it? I’m doing it next year and I’m absolutely terrified. I even procrastinated it by doing AP Stats after pre calc instead of AP calc. It’s worth noting I’m not a great math student (730 on the SAT but straight As in pre calc).

Put in the grade already. It’s been over a week and you have ONE CLASS of midterms to grade.

My English teacher told our class today how to determine what midterm score to aim for, based on your semester grade. Apparently, for every 5 points higher/lower your midterm is than your pre-midterm semester grade, 1 point is added/subtracted from it. So, if you have a 80, getting a 85 on the midterm will bump you up to an 81, and scoring a 75 would get you a 79. This is for midterms and finals that make-up 20% of your semester grade. Maybe this seems obvious to some people, but I thought I’d share anyways.

I’m terrified for my Honors Latin II exam. I had the same teacher last year, and I got a 82 on the midterm, and a 71 on the final, both being curved. I believe the average on the final was a D. I have 92 (90 first quarter, 100 second, somehow makes a 92??? IDK) so I need to get a 82 in order to to keep an A. I do feel more confident in my Latin skills this year, but knowing the brutality of the last year, with the increased difficulty of being in a higher-level class, doesn’t bode well for me. ;u;

Honors Bio is also a concern, since like Latin, I flopped first quarter with a 85, and then got a 96 this quarter (which I predict is going to fall due to a recent test so I’m reveling in this while I still can) so my semester grade is a 91. My teacher gave us a handout on what to learn, and I’ve forgotten everything but the recent chapters. So again, bad vibes here.

Last but not least, Algebra II is a worry. This is a standard class, but I still got an 85.8 quarter one and tried to make up for it by getting a 94.6 now, but my semester grade has me living on the edge with a 90.2. A slight slip-up could cost me the A. Considering I got a 65 and 70 (both curved) on my Geometry exams last year, I’m pretty much screwed.

Moral of the story is, don’t be like me and ruin your grades first quarter. This quarter has been my best ever, and my semester grades are still aren’t nearly as stable as I’d like them to be.

I know to some people that these grades are fine. I’m just frustrated with myself, knowing that I could have done so much better quarter one if I had just put in slightly more effort (story of my life). If I had gotten those grades by trying, then I’d be fine with my scores. Bleh. I guess this is a vent thread anyways.

On the bright side, I’m confident my English, Gov, and Health grades will be solid. :slight_smile:
