A touching piece by an amazing man

I read this and was touched, I am not particularly religious, at least not formally, yet as I usually am when reading Dr. Sachs writings, it spoke to me.

Years ago when I had a boat on City Island (a small island off the coast of the Bronx, that then was mostly Marinas and boat clubs and boat yards) Dr. Sachs had a house there, and I occasionally would see him walking around, or enjoying the waterfront, once or twice even got to say hi to him. I think the concept of a quiet day, when you don’t have to do things, when you can simply sit back and smell the roses, is a very valuable thing, I sometimes wonder if the concept of the sabbath and the ideas of loving others were pulled out of religion and made the tenets of a very simple faith, if we would live better for it…anyway, just wanted to share this.

He is one of my all-time favorite people. I can honestly say that his writing on many, many things has had a profound effect on the way I view the world.

(I saw this piece in the NYT and when I saw the thread title, I thought it might be in reference to this piece.)

That article is soooo good!

@musicprnt, that’s a nice anecdote too!
