Lets face it most serious students today applying to the top 25 schools in the US all have similar applications. Most have scored around or above a 2000 on there SAT I they are either president or hold numerous positions throughout their schools clubs and they have gone above and beyond in there academics, hopefully ranking in the top 10% of their class if they consider themselves a serious candidate for these prestigious universities and colleges.
There are only a few things that ambitious students who want to be seriously considered for acceptence can do. In order to effectivley individualize and separate themselves from the myriad of carbon copy applications that I previously described they need to manifest their personalities and ambitions so that the college admissions can grasp an almost vicarious response and feeling through and toward who you actually are.
The second offer that i believe will further separate an individual from the rest of candidates is by presenting the school with an individual career that is abnormal from lets say your typical pre-med or buisness programs. In this sense you are already cutting down your competition. In my case I will be presenting my career choice as an entrepenureal golf course architect. With extremely detailed blueprints and topographical replicas of modern courses I can honeslty and safley say that the person who reviews my application will have seen nothing like it. I mean lets face it how many 17-18 year olds want to become golf course architects? The only problem in this career choice is the fact that some elite universities may or may not respond to this positively. That is why you want to divesify your colleges that you apply to.

Bravo to you for having such a unique interest at such a young age.

That said, no one should put down that they want to be a horticulture major just because college X doesn’t have that many.
