A "what college should you apply to?" flowchart!

Hey all!

I’m a current Cornell student, and this past application cycle I had a couple of students from my high school come to me with questions about which college at Cornell they should apply to. Now, sometimes it’s obvious (want to study architecture? well, apply to AAP), but a lot of the time it isn’t. There’s a decent amount of overlap, and some common questions (for example, I got a lot of questions about whether a student looking to major in CS should apply to Engineering or CAS, and it really comes down to what other requirements you want to take).

To help out with this decision, I put together a little flowchart. People seemed to appreciate it, so I figured I’d share it here in case it can help anyone who’s looking to apply in the future.

(Note: this is an edited version of the one I sent out to people I know. I checked the info on it and am reasonably certain it’s all correct, but I also made it at a rather late hour last night. Please let me know if there are any factual and/or grammatical errors!)

What should I type in place of the asterisks?

Whoops, sorry. I’m new to CC! It’s i m g u r .c o m

I’m pretty biased, and this is sort of addressed in your third footnote already, but if you don’t know what you want to major in (and even if you’re from NY), I highly recommend arts and sciences! The college offers such a wide variety of majors and the distribution requirements are such that you can explore a ton of different majors in your first two years without “wasting time” because you’ll actually be fulfilling requirements. Switching majors within the college is super easy and there’s no pressure to declare at all until the end of your sophomore year!
