Is a teacher “required” to give a student a zero on a quiz if the student missed it with an unexcused absence? Is there a policy that states that in Fairfax County for public schools?

My teacher is new to our school and I feel as though she’s just throwing hurdles at me.
I couldn’t concentrate over winter break due to the thought of my grade taking a serious impact from this.

Any advice would be greatly, so very much appreciated.

Every school system does it differently. Where I live, making up an assignment from an unexcused absence is purely at the teacher’s discretion. Why was the absence unexcused?

my school gives a 0 for an unexcused absence. why was it unexcused in the first place? every school is different I’m sure the teacher is just following the rules

If you can produce a reasonable excuse for you missing the quiz and explain to the teacher that it was impossible to attend class, then you should be fine.

Probably depends on why you missed class. If you cut, then yeah it probably has to be a 0. If your mom like forgot to call in or something that’s different (my mom’s done that before and i got detention lol)

They may not be required, but they sure can if they want to. WHy do you have an unexcused absence? That’s probably why she won’t let you redo it. And why would you ask us about your county? Couldn’t you have just looked it up yourself? That’s a little lazy…

I lost my handbook, which is why I asked. Completely left my mind that I could have looked it up online! Sorry - things were hectic around here. My apologies and gratitude to those you took the time to do it.
