im an ib diploma candidate

Your stats are pretty good. I think your excellence in music will help you a lot, as well as taking hard courses. I would probably take the SAT/ACT again just to get a few more points, but other than that I think you have a shot with great essays and recs.

yea i prob will retake the sat1…what r u stats?

Add 0.4 to your GPA and 300 points to your SAT.

Take the ACT, and give us a detailed list of universities that you are considering.

im thinking about barnard/columbia, swarthmore, and haverford

Columbia and Barnard are No’s if you don’t raise your GPA/Standardized Exams. I’m not familiar with Swarthmore or Haverford.

to dylandlima,

are you, sir/madam, an admissions officer for either columbia or barnard? do you even go to either of these schools? are you even in college? if so, thank you for your insight, if not, kindly tell me how you made these conclusions.

Thank You.

You have amazing stats, but the standardized testing might drag you down.
Try taking the ACT, I didn’t do so hot on my SAT, but I ended up with a very satisfying ACT score. ;)

In all honesty, standardized testing says absolutely nothing about you, but admissions officers say otherwise…

yea…thats true…but im worried about taking and retaking tests that they may get worse.

Don’t even worry about it getting worse, just study for those tests and I’m sure you can get a higher score.
Besides, colleges take the higher ones anyways, so its a no lose situation.
Are you from a low-income family? or an Urban school? that might help

But I would really really encourage you to retake the standardized tests if you’re aiming for those schools.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/954601-hypsm-hopeful-chances.html

kinda low income (not rich but 2 cars in the driveway), public all girls school in philly…definately retaking the sat…possibly the act

I also agree that you should try and take the ACT. If you can get a 30+, you will have a great shot at all of those colleges. My SAT scores were only average (low 2000’s) but my ACT score was great (in the 30’s) and I am also an African-American female. Also, the ACT is score choice so if you do badly in one sitting and then better in the next, only your best score is visible.

Otherwise, I think you’re chances might be hurt a bit by your test scores.
