AACSB Accredited for business but not Accounting

The undergraduate business school at the college under consideration is AACSB accredited for business but the accounting program itself does not have the separate accounting AACSB accreditation as other colleges have.

Anyone here run into a problem when pursuing their CPA certificate if their business school was not AACSB “Accounting” accredited??

I wonder, does the business school have its own career fair? Who recruits and hires their accounting majors?
( some employers don’t prioritize CPA)

What does the college suggest for reaching the 150 credit requirement? Doubling up while in undergrad or getting a masters?

There is a new CPA exam and some recent grads are delaying taking it until the bugs are worked out, so to speak.

The Big 4 recruits from there. But need to contact B-School to ask more questions. Trying to do some back channel investigating before I reach out on Monday. Thanks

Sorry I don’t have the answer. CPAs are given by a state board (not a college). A few things to consider:
–I would check employment out of the program including who recruits there (and how many students firms take).
–See if the department knows how their students fare on the CPA exam.
–I would also compare the academc program at the school to the required courses to become a CPA in your state. This information should be online.
–See if the college offers a one year MS in accounting (one now needs 150 college credits to become a CPA).
– I might also ask why the program is not accredited .

Also suggest checking internships, as the internships lead to offers.

Some faculty may serve on state licensing committee for Board of Accountancy.

Student chapter of state CPA association may offer insights.

An example in Maryland

Great points - big 4 recruits there so would imagine they are in good standing.

Noticed this state flagship had satellite campus with Accounting accreditation so wonder if it covers whole college university “system”?

Will definitely follow up on your excellent points!

Thank you!!

I expect it is fine. There is a strong demand for CPAs these days.
