Would research credit for working in a lab count as Other?

Would a class named Math Tools for Engineer Problem Solving count as math although it is listed in the school as an engineering course?

Would a class named Math Tools for Engineer Problem Solving count as math although it is listed in the school as an engineering course?

Math Tools–it will depend on the content of the course. If it’s practical mathematical skills for engineers, then probably. If it’s a course teaching the use of MatLab or other software packages–then definitely not. (Based upon the course title, I’m guessing it’s the latter. D2 took a similiar course in BME-- it was software course.)

Research lab credits may or may not count as BCPM. It depends how it’s listed on your transcript. If the credits are listed as being in one of AMCAS approved BCPM fields–then they count as BCPM courses. If they are listed as being in any other areas, then they count as whatever the transcript lists them as. (Social sciences, Natural sciences, Communications…)

For example, if you have research credits in neuroscience (NSC 395–research in cognition), those credits count as a BCPM course. However, if you have research credits in computer science (CS 398-- independent game design), that would be listed under computer science and technology courses and be counted in your cGPA, but not your sGPA.

What about research credit listed as an honors program research course, though it is in a molecular biology lab?

And the EGR math course goes over cal III and diff eq so I think it will be listed as Math :)

If you do list the ENGR course, you will need to explain the content and include the course description from your college’s catalog.

If there’s any question of how you’ve classified a course, AMCAS holds your application during the verification until it can manually check that the course is correctly classified. That can take weeks. Your application is in limbo until the issue is resolved.

As for the honors course–that’s very iffy. It doesn’t matter where the course is held. It only matters what the transcript designation is. A seminar in general research techniques–regardless of where the class meets–is NOT a BCPM course. I wouldn’t include in your BCPM GPA UNLESS your transcript displays a BCPM course designation for the class.

The safest approach is to keep yourself far away from any course that is (jointly or not) offered by any engineering department, if you want to be certain that the course you take counts as BCPM.

The engineering and the premed just do not mix well, general speaking - with some exceptions though. (How dare you choose a major which may comfortably lead to another vocation just with a BS degree even with a subpar GPA?! It does not show your commitment to medicine right here. It is like pursuing a girl/boy while declaring to her/him that, I love you the most; however, if you do not love me back, another girl/boy is waiting in line for me. What success rate will you have if the said girl/boy has plenty of other equally good choices? :))
