abc news ....another journalism oops!

I guess this just another honest mistake(sarcasm)

cnn has done some unethical things themselves.

I think I’ve seen the same tattered baby doll displayed on five or six different earthquake/tornado stories. Poignant and marketable, but pure fiction.

I wonder what the point was. It is not like having the yellow tape behind you adds anything to the story. And now they just look bad.

Kind of pales in comparison to what anchor Bret Baier at Fox News had to apologize for this week.

running with bad information is a lot different than setting up your own crime scene.

Or Fox’s Hannity.

sean hannity is not a news reporter. he does commentary. but again I think perhaps some people are not bothered by a crime scene on the leading national news that is faked by abc news…but they do not like fox news. ok…I understand fox news is bad , abc keep up the good work. (smh)

“running with bad information is a lot different than setting up your own crime scene.”

No it’s not when the story is 100% true.

Did the fact they put up crime scene tape negate the truthfulness of the story?

It was, in fact, the crime scene (or likely as close to the actual crime scene reporters were allowed to be in.)

Where are the policies about 2 confirmations from different sources of a story before it is run?

“Did the fact they put up crime scene tape negate the truthfulness of the story?”
you are joking?

Yes, because running with bad information MATTERS.

Yes, running with bad information is 100x worse.

“Sean hannity is not a news reporter. he does commentary. but again I think perhaps some people are not bothered by a crime scene on the leading national news that is faked by abc news…but they do not like fox news. ok…I understand fox news is bad , abc keep up the good work. (smh)”

Was that the field where the crime scene was not where the crime took place? Was anything about the story being reported false?

Sean Hannity is a representative of the Fox News Organization. His program is not listed in the entertainment section.

He was reporting news he believed to be true because it was on other news sites (which is apparently where he gets his news from) and had the added benefit of confirmation by one of his listeners.

He believed he had a big story that he was breaking to a gazillion of his listeners. Instead he had to apologize for broadcasting a blatantly false story.

Did I miss the thread you made about the news organizations that reported that fake story?

Or the one about Fox’s Bret Baier?

I’ve looked for “another journalism oops” thread but this is the only one I could find. Why is that?

alice in wonderland
who said running with bad information is good?
the reporter and her crew faked a crime scene…what the heck does one have to do with the other? news people report bad info all the time, but faking something like a crime scene and getting caught is… just an oh well ? are you ok with this behavior?

the most famous case of the last couple decades
http://articles.latimes.com/1993-02-10/news/mn-1335_1_gm-pickup

I question the judgment of anyone whose primary source of information from TV news, frankly.

Ever since the invention of the HINT (Happy Idiot News Team), it has been largely infotainment.

And no, that doesn’t make it okay to put up fake crime scene tape, but on the other hand what the hell is the value of seeing a reporter standing in front of a crime scene where you can’t see anything in the first place? This is TV. Not journalism.

On the other hand, if you can’t see the difference between purveying false information which reasonable journalistic standards would have disproved because it fits your network’s political purposes and putting up some fake tape to dramatically stage a scene for the camera while not changing or adding any actual FACTS, well…

The former kind of thing is why Sabrina Rubin Erdeley no longer has a career and Nicole Eramo just won her lawsuit against Rolling Stone.

If you still don’t see it, image if the crime scene thing had been run with “dramatization” as a banner. Suddenly no problem. What would the banner in the other case have had to read? “Not professionally reported”? “No facts in the story have been checked”? You suggest something.

They’re all terrible. Show me a journalist who hasn’t run with bad info or with lies and I’ll show you an unemployed journalist.

BREAKING NEWS: Sensational stories sell, even when they are fictional.

They didn’t fake a crime scene. That was the field where the crime took place. Does putting up crime scene tape negate that it was indeed the crime scene?

No, putting up tape does not change any facts about the story reported. That was the field were the crime took place.

I suppose because of the tape you believe no crime was committed there and the story is bogus? A simple yes or no will do.

Where are your other “oops” thread? It’s obviously a big deal to you or is it only selective “oops” you start threads on?

@STEM2017 , my S is a journalist and he has done neither.

That’s like saying “Show me a scientist who hasn’t claimed credit for a subordinate’s work or fudged data and I’ll show you a scientist who has lost his or her grant money.” Phooey.

Are we really discussing journalism ethics based on an “article” on TMZ? That paragon of journalistic integrity? @zobroward, you’ve got too much time on your hands
