About Being First Gen..

<p>So about the first generation as a hook. Does the admissions committee look up whether the applicant is a first generation, or does this have to be explicitly written in the personal statement? I was not aware of having to check a box on the application even though I am a first generation college student. I might be mistaken, since it’s been awhile since I did the application.</p>

<p>In the Common App, under family, you list the degrees your parents have attained. If they haven’t I believe it is assumed you are first generation. They also have your social security number, and a lot can be uncovered from those digits.</p>
