About Boarding School Review

Thought this information might help explain some of the data we see from the site. It seems how up to date the information about a certain school is really depends on how “diligently” that school updates its info on the site. And supposedly any information posted on that site is accurate as it comes directly from the school.

From boarding school review:

That is - up to the time the school profile was updated. The date of profile last updated is specified at the end of the “School Notes” section.

My understanding is that the schools have to pay for uploading current information. Many of the schools have very old data on them.

I didn’t know the schools had to pay. Isn’t it an ad supported site? Anyway, I only checked a few schools’ profiles. Some were updated as recent as in July/Aug. this year, and others were updated sometime last year. I think we should remind people to look at the “profile last updated” date at the end of “School Notes” section before using the data for a school.

The numbers on boardingschoolreview can be used for a preliminary review. It’s best not to base your final list of schools on bsr’s numbers. Even with updates listed, some things can be incorrect or missing. For example, SAT scores listed for Peddie are Average SAT Score 2000
SAT range (25th-75th percentile) 1720 - 2030
No way does it have an average SAT score of 2000, but a 25%-75% range of 1720-2030
The Blair information was just updated, but now their average SAT score, % of faculty with graduate degrees, and % acceptance is missing. They used to provide that info, and they have nothing to hide in those areas. Perhaps an oversight by the inputer?

Anyway, I rate bsr as helpful, but use with caution.

Wonder if anyone has tried using the “standardized forms” to get errors corrected and/or request additional information from schools.

I noticed some severely outdated and perhaps entirely incorrect info on Andover’s page, and I emailed boardingschoolreview to correct the information, most specifically Andover’s average SAT score, which for some reason they had as 2008. The site now cites it as 2076, the figure I sent in the email. I think the site has no problem with user contributions as long as you can point to an accurate source, which in my case was Andover’s 2008 academic profile.
