I have noticed that the life calculus taught by Dr. Duffus has already to be full while life cal taught by other professors are still open. I am really surprised by this since life cal is a introductory course and all the freshmen are not able to enroll until orientation. Does this mean the spots are filled up by those upperclassmen? I really want to take Dr. Duffus’s cal because it fits my strict schedule perfectly and I have heard that he is a awesome professor. Should I just add this class to my shopping and wait to see what happen during the orientation? Are there any other ways I can get into this class? By the way, any comment about Dr Powers and Dr Philipp for life cal in term of teaching pace, rigor, test?

A lot of people don’t take a math their first year. So yea upper classed filled them. And the only way to get in the class if their is a spot open if not just take another section.

I never had either math teacher but can say from what I seen calc isnt too much harder no matter who teaches it. Only really two differences. One is grading some teachers grade homework others dont. Other is teacher style, some teach from a theory perceptive others are purely application. What I find when I tutor students if they struggle because they do not understand the concepts.

Also, Emory does provide free tutoring for calc

Is it possible to be overloaded into the class? I kind of want to email Dr. Duffus to request that. I really want to be in that class because once I change the section, my whole schedule has to change. Thank you though.

Not likely to over load into an intro class and they won’t overload if other sections are open

What is most likely happening is that spots are being held for freshmen. They did not open up all of the seats as of yet or else they would be taken by sophomores or higher. Seats will be added during orientation for most (if not all) intro. level courses.

Thank you, bernie, I feel more hopeful now. Hope what you are saying is true
