Impacted Majors

Due to high demand, five engineering majors at the Jacobs School have been designated as oversubscribed.

Bioengineering Department (BENG)

Bioengineering Biotechnology

does that means Bioengineering (Bioinformatics) (B.S.)* and Bioengineering-Premedical (B.S.)* are not impacted majors?

when i applied i thought all bioengineering was impacted

Beng-premed I know for sure is not impacted, but not sure about bioinformatics.

yeah the bioeng-premed isn’t impacted, they screen you in your first 2 years or something(minimum gpa reqt. or something) also, cse i think is impacted too.

Bioinformatics is offered by several departments. The one offered by the CSE department is impacted, but the rest are not.

As noted, BioE premed is not impacted, but you are screened during your second year – you have to maintain a certain GPA in your core engineering classes.

BioE Bioinformatics is not a “normal” major, so there are a lot of messy steps to get admitted into it. This is taken from the [UCSD Catalog](http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/curric/BENG.html):

Tip: Change your major on application so that it increases your chances, but once you get in, change it back.
