So every year many students complain about the lack of parking at USF, there are more students than there are parking spaces.

The response every year from the Student Government and related parties is:

“Well, there is plenty of parking available throughout the day, students just aren’t willing to go where the parking is. You can’t expect to arrive 10 minutes before class and find a parking spot right next to your classroom building.”

I can accept the second part. But where is this available parking that they speak of? When I go to campus at 11:00am or 2:00pm I haven’t seen parking anywhere.

The sun dome lot is full. The entire north-west is full. All the parking garages I’ve seen are full. The grass parking near the Patel Center and the library is full.

Instead of making excuses and spending money on imported fabrics in game rooms the university should spend money on building more parking garages over current lots.

I’ve always lived on campus or across street from campus and don’t have a car; I know parking is a hassle though on campus. A new 1000 car parking garage costs USF about $15,000,000 to build. Money is tight now for USF and I don’t think USF is building any new garages right now. Try finding a space at 10:30am or 1:30pm. Good Luck!

While the parking issue at USF is without a doubt no where close to ideal, it’s comparatively better than at other schools, such as UF. I can’t speak for everyone, but I don’t have too much of a problem trying to find parking. Most of the time I have to camp in one spot and wait for classes to get out so that students can return to their cars, but even so I don’t have to wait too long. I think some students (not all, of course) feel that they’re entitled to a parking spot directly next to their classes, and while there are some spots that allow that possibility, they come at a premium. While the Sundome and Library parking lots are like suicide, spots come and go all the time… you just need some luck and aggressiveness.

I think some sort of monorail system would be awesome, but I’m dreaming.
