About the English program

I heard that if you got over a 32 on the ACT on the English section, you don’t need to take English in College. Is that true at the University of Illinois at Champaign?

A 32+ on the English subscore of the ACT is one way to get credit for RHET 105, not the English program as a whole.

Could you explain what the RHET is compared to the English program? I’m looking to major in some sort of science; does that mean that I don’t have to take any English classes if I go to U of I, since I got over a 32+?

It means you get credit for the class RHET 105. Depending on your major, that may or may not be the only “English” class you have to take. For engineering it is the only one you have to take, but for some others it may not be. In other words, getting that 32 gets you out of all English classes that you would have to take as an engineer, but if you are doing something with English requirements beyond RHET 105, then it would not cover all of it.

Oh, okay. Thanks!
