About the favorite things essay, does it have to relate to us personally??
Like do we have to use the essay to explain something about ourselves??
My friend advised me to change my essay, but I thought just saying why I love something showed a lot about me anyway without really relating it to me…???

You’ve hinted at the point of the second essay in your post. You need to show the adcom something about yourself, but not as explicitly as you might in the third essay, say. In other words, you’re right - pick your ‘favourite things’ carefully and discuss them articulately such that the reader gets a sense of you from the essay.

I did quite the opposite of that actually. I wrote about a favorite something of mine and it was completely relevant to who I am as a person, but then again, my long essay is the complete opposite. I am positive that it doesn’t matter which route you take, because they will reveal something about you regardless of whether you just talk about it or correlate it to you.

i’m just talking about my favorite books and plays, and why i like them. im not relating it to my life, i think just talking about why i enjoy them says enough about me.
