About the Master of Audio Technology

Hi, I’m a International student, I’m trying hard to search master degree for Audio engineering, audio technology as the NYU’s offering or audio production…something like that. But it’s been hard to find more colleges offering these kinds of master degree. Does somebody know about the field? please share some information to me! Thanks!

I can point you to a similar question here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/6280-suggestions-colleges-music-majors.html</a>, posts #'s 542 & 543.

^That may be in part because there really aren’t a whole lot of schools offering pure MEng in Audio Recording (versus Masters in Music Tech or ENG in Acoustics…slight distinctions is course study and sequence.)

For straight up audio engineering masters accredited by AES check out Frost (Miami) MS), McGill (MMus); Peabody/JHU (MS), UMass Lowell (think MM) as well as NYU (MA), Berkelee (M?).

If you mean a combo electrical engineering with acoustics (MS EE), Rochester (Eastman) has a masters in that discipline. If you’re thinking more along the lines of sound design, SCAD is one that comes up a lot in media threads (MFA). Hope that gives you a place to start.

PS - I am assuming you have an undergrad degree in audio engineering within a school of music context?

I believe Yale has something in sound design at the master’s level as well, possibly through their theatre program.
