About to get my Business AA direct transfer from a CC

Im about to earn my business AA direct transfer degree this fall and plan on transferring to UW in winter 2013. I usually talk to an ad visor every quarter at my community college. They never seem to help me.

My question is do you actually need to earn a business AA to get into the business program at UW? or can you just complete the pre reqs and transfer?

Also, I heard you need at least 2 quarters of college level courses in a foreign language to transfer to UW/UW bothell, but it doesn’t indicate that anywhere. I have 3 years of Spanish in high school, will that help?

Yeah, I found that college academic advisers at my CC are also pretty useless. I have advised myself through my 2.5 years at CC.

Regarding your questions

1) No. Before your application, you need to complete the courses listed on the website under “Pre-app”. AND you have to complete the “Pre-admission” courses before you start your first quarter at the UW (although in the case of fall admission you have to have them completed before the summer quarter, don’t know how it works with winter). However, having an AA increases your chances of being admitted into the UW.

2) I think that this requirement is waived if you had foreign language in high school. ([College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADR) | University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/Admission/Transfer/CADR#english))

Thanks seatac. Did you finish your AA or are you just going to transfer without it? Also I see that you’re quite active in these forums. This question might sound stupid but what is the WSA??

Yes, I will have my AA in three weeks :)

WSA is the “Writing Skills Assessment” - a required writing test you must take when you apply to Foster. It plays a significant role in your admission (35%), and it can help you if you have bad stats and a good WSA score, or ruin your chances if you have good stats, but a low WSA score.

Congratulations! I’ll be getting mine this fall.

Where do you take the WSA?

ajymerced: you should get the Business AAS-DTA, because it will give you priority in admissions to the school itself, although I don’t know if it will help in getting into Foster, as long as you have your prerequisites done.

Also, seatac is right, you shouldn’t need the extra language. Also, I am not sure what the requirements are for Foster, but I’m told it’s lower than the College of Arts & Sciences (where my major is).

Also, what CC do you go to? I went to Bellevue and Seattle Central, both of those schools had people from UW come there once or twice a week (Bellevue was twice because both Seattle and Bothell had a person there once a week). The UW people naturally can help you a lot more than your councilor in the CC.

XaviFM : That is the Associate of Arts in Business Direct Transfer Agreement right? Because that’s what I’ll be earning in the fall.

And hopefully you and Seatac are right. I took 3 years in high school and don’t wanna take it again.

I go to Edmonds CC right now.

You’re good. The business school has no foreign language requirement at all for graduation. The Arts and Science majors (economics, psychology, etc.) require two years, however that can be waived if you have three years of high school foreign language, which you do.

@ajymerced you can take it at any UW campus within a specific timeframe. It’s usually published on Foster’s website and it’s usually from the first day the application opens until the very last. Or, if you live too far away from a UW campus, you can take it a local school. You just need to find somebody who will receive the packet and proctor the exam for you.

@uw2014, yeah, but there is also UW’s CADR, which is for everyone.

Yeah, your Associates of Arts in Business from Edmonds will do well. I would come to Transfer Thursdays and see if there’s a follow-up that can answer you. Perhaps there’s a Foster adviser as well.

XaviFM - Where does transfer thursdays take place and what time?

[UW Advising - Transfer Thursday](http://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/transfers/tt.php)

Good luck!!

Question about the WSA! On the application to UW Bothell, it asks if I want to submit my SAT scores or WSA scores. You can submit the SAT score as its within 5 years. So is taking the WSA not a requirement if you can show your SAT scores?

Yes. You can choose to show your SAT instead and there will be no need to take the WSA.
This doesn’t work with Foster though. Foster accepts only their WSA.
