and thinking about spending June and July in Ann Arbor. I have actually never spent summer in Ann Arbor during my 4 years and wonder if anyone can tell me more. I have heard good things.
the one thing i worry about is if it is a ghost town in the summer. Not many times in life where one has absolutely no work to worry about but still get paid so want to make the most out of it
no one has anything?
You’ve never gotten to attend the Ann Arbor Art Fair in the summer? That’s an absolute must. AA is certainly no ghost town in the summer, but obviously not as busy as the school year. Still a great place to be, anytime of year.
“no one has anything?”
After 30 years in banking, I’ve heard “garden leave” a few hundred times. I’ve NEVER hear the progressive tense.
Ann Arbor is awesome in the summer. Like ChoatieMom said, definitely not a ghost town. It is quiet obviously, but you still have most of the faculty, residents of Ann Arbor, and over 10,000 students who stay behind for the summer months. Plus you have activities like Top of the Park, Art Fair etc…And should you want a nice change of pace, hop on the train and go to Chicago for a few days.
I googled “garden leave,” and the first thing I saw was a definition of “gardening leave” from the UK. I’ve never heard of either garden or gardening leave, so I was just looking it up to see what the heck it is.
This whole gardening leave thing sucks. Never in a million year did I imagine how much it sucks to get paid to do nothing. It’s so boring.
@bearcats How about hobbies, travel, adventures, reading great books? C’mon man, there’s got to be something you want to do especially since you’re getting paid and don’t have to watch your pennies. And the weather is nice now, too!
I spent one of the best summers of my life in Ann Arbor. And you have some money and don’t have to take classes! Take a bike if you do it.
@Blue85 maybe you are not in an international bank. Very common in British banks.
I remember last year the Ann Arbor festival lasted much longer than it usually does. It went on literally everyday for a month. They have food trucks and live music. Occasionally, Blind Pig has mainstream artists come.
If you’re a heterosexual guy, befriend a cute undergrad and see where it goes. They are easily impressed with guys who have reputable employment
I would totally not hate gardening leave. A few months of vacation to decompress would be good. I have never had it tho. I’m always made to stay when I resign to clean up and pass on the tasks…(guess I shouldn’t complain they won’t pay me to do nothing;)
Enjoy the time! Look for concerts in Detroit. Check out things coming there or Auburn hills. Maybe even audit a class???
