About UC San Diego 6 colleges

Hi. I am going to apply for the transfer this year. I actually don’t understand about 6 colleges of UCSD. Do the 6 colleges have different curriculum and have different rankings? and does the diploma indicate which exact college I went to?
I also need some help about numbering 6 colleges from 1 to 6. My major is sociology. Please help.

They have different general education requirements.

Hi, I’m not sure about the diploma, but each college has a different set of requirements and classes you must complete. I would go here: http://admissions.ucsd.edu/colleges/about/index.html where it explains their college system and the different requirements each of the colleges have.

I’m a soc major at Berkeley, but when I was applying to transfer I was interested in Marshall or Roosevelt. I would stay clear from Revelle, I believe it’s mostly for science and engineering majors, but not exclusively. I would just read through the requirements and see what best matches up what you want to accomplish once you transfer.

Transfer requirements are different from freshman requirements even for Revellle. From what Ive read and remember reading here, it could be the opposite, so check each college’s website carefully.

Also, be aware (as in all things UC) - requesting a college is no guarantee you will get it.

Revelle has relatively heavy general education requirements, including substantial humanities, math, science, and foreign language:

Post #5 but not for transfer. So check the transfer requirements.

The colleges at UCSD are more like six different liberal arts colleges, each with its own philosophy and general education requirements, but each offering all the majors available at the university. The major requirements are all the same, but the general education requirements are not. You need to investigate and see which philosophy and set of (transfer) requirements fits you best.
I graduated from Revelle. It is NOT the typical choice of engineering majors. Way too many GE requirements. I chose it because I was entering undeclared as a freshman and wanted to take some of everything. It was a great experience.
The colleges do not have different rankings.
My diploma has both the name of the university and the name of my college.

Transfers seem to hate ERC because of the MMW requirements.

My friends at UCSD vouch for Muir for transfers with IGETC as you only need one GE writing class and Warren for those without IGETC as your major preps will overlap the GE requirements. Sixth seems to be a popular choice as well.

My D just transferred this fall to UCSD and chose Warren. She has IGETC and has to take a Warren Writing class and 2 upper division classes outside of her area of study (Communications).
