Absolutely Horrible at Reading on any Standardized Test

Hey everyone! I really need some advice/help. For some reason, I’m absolutely horrible at reading sections on sat/act/ap Lang. I feel like half of the questions are heavily subjective and my way of thinking views themes, etc. in an entirely different way.

I’m also not bad at standardized testing, it’s just reading (35E, 30M, 23R, 33S)

I have my AP Lang test in two days and feel screwed… Any advice, help, or comment is appreciated…

Sounds like you filter too heavily when you “read”. Part of scholastic aptitude is dropping the personal filters to see what is actually being said.

Pick a difficult passage. Like something 19th century-esque with a lot of difficult vocabulary and syntax. For your language, I’m not sure what an applicable author would be, but when I was preparing for SAT CR in high school I used passages by Lincoln, Patrick Henry, Benjamin Franklin and HL Mencken. So, pick a difficult passage. Read it out loud. Copy the whole thing in longhand. Read it aloud again. Come up with three questions that you don’t immediately know the answer to. Answer at least one of them in essay form. Read the passage aloud again.

Ideally, you’d have a lot more than two days, but the method works very well.
