Absorbent towels?

Need recommendations; have purchased 2 or 3 sets over the last year or so and can’t stand any of them…not absorbent enough…

Anybody have any good ideas?

This is a good question. For some reason, the quality seems good, that is, until they’ve been washed a few times. I guess it makes sense to buy just 1 towel as a test-drive, before committing to a whole set.

Do not use liquid fabric softener in your towel load, it repels droplets and you just smear water from one part of your body to another with your coated towel.
Use a once used dryer sheet in the dryer with the towels, just enough to take the static out.
Avoid liquid laundry soap and fabric softener combo.

Buy better quality towels, all cotton, no polyester. A lot of towels have a cotton face and polyester backing. I like the towels from Garnet Hill but they are pricey.

No fabric softener; hot water wash; very little detergent; at least one extra rinse.

Agree with ALL COTTON towels (they’re all we use around here). I’ve never used fabric softner. Ross & Costco have some at good prices.

I just bought a new set at Home Goods. 100 percent cotton. I forget the brand but they are very nice! If I wasn’t curled up on the couch with the dog i would get up and check on the brand. I’ll get it to you later! :)

I also buy ONLY pure white towels so that I can bleach them if they get dingy. Both of my Ds use face medications that bleach out towels and pillow cases so white makes sense.

I was in the market for new towels when we moved last summer. I found this article helpful: [Best Bath Towels - Reviews of Bath Towels - Good Housekeeping](10 Best Bath Towels 2023, Tested and Reviewed by Experts)

I bought some “Hotel Towels” from Macy’s – and got them at a great price since they were on sale AND I had coupons. (As far as I can tell, there’s no need to EVER pay full price at Macy’s …) I love the towels!

Restoration Hardware has excellent, although pricey, towels. They’re thick, heavy cotton, very absorbent, although not super-soft. I actually don’t like the really soft towels, as they usually shed like crazy and aren’t as absorbent.

All cotten, no softener, and put white viniger as the replacement for softener, it’ll take care of static cling.

I have these towels and they are magnificent:

That said, these towels are very heavy and if you live in a humid climate, they could take forever to dry. (I live in a very dry climate - 20 minutes in a dryer and they’re done.)

I have also heard marvels about these, much lighter type of towels, but have not personally tried them.

CBB: to Macy’s I go…with my coupons in hand; apparently they are also on sale this weekend…will report back later…

Thanks to all for the tips!!

Rodney, sounds like you may have found your solution but last year we visited relatives and I loved their thick cotton towels so much that I ordered some–they’re called espalma 700 series and I bought the bath sheets–love them!

I have towels from Target that are wonderful. The line is called Thomas O’Brian. They are very soft, absorbent, thick, all cotton. Many colors available.

I do wait for a sale and have found that around Thanksgiving/Christmas time one can get these for $10-11 for a bath towel (not a bath sheet) including shipping. The bath towels are a nice size. They are softer when brand new, but they are absorbent. They are not towels that look nice for years and years. I have my oldest ones for 2.5 years and their age does show. For us, they are fine. I would not want to offer our older ones to a house guest.
