Has anyone done their taxes where they were covered by a healthcare program whilst living abroad and also immediately upon moving home? I am being told that all the time abroad does not qualify as coverage & a fine may be required, which just isn’t logical. Seems like one should not be required to show qualifying plans during the time abroad or else that the NHS should qualify since it covers the entire UK.
I can’t really remember know and I’ll have to ask my dd but when she came home from being abroad, I think she just had to show that she had been abroad and thus had a life changing event when she came home. She certainly didn’t pay a fine. She managed to get a job before the ACA kicked in.

but you should always talk to a CPA.
