aca deca == academic decathalon
I got 4 weeks to do this, and I need a lil guidance. :

0) quick question- are the practice test materials aca deca sells to the schools indicative of the actual tests?

1) I’ve basically done 60-80 percent of the study guides( made note cards) and plan to finish the rest in the rest of it in the next week or 2. Can someone tip me on what in particular I should remember- esp. for Soc Studies, Art, and Music.
- In the Art study guide, there are a lot of names and examples.Do I need to remember these? They(aca deca) give us a art packet( our school paid a lot for it). They also link to the artwork from their website. Is there anything special about these booklets that I should pay attention to? The art in general? Or should I just memorize the study guides?
-In Soc Studies, there are sometimes long lists of names or cities that seem irrelevant. But I took the practice test and a lot of the questions seemed totally irrelelvant (I think in the art section they asked what type of material a building was made of). What memory work should I pay attention too?
-in Music, they very very frequently cite people to prove a point. Do I need to know about these people they cite? They also give long lists of compositions or give examples of composers and compositions to prove a point. Do I need to know these? Thdy give us a CD. What should I do with it? Just listen to it? Or learn to discern certain types of music(polyphony, strophic, etc). I think I need to memorize the order the songs come in( they actually acked sometihng like “What was track 7 on the Companion CD?”)

2) How should I conduct my “independant research projects” (euphemism for busy work)? I basically looked online and copied and pasted key words from Aca deca’s online outline. I got some websits but I’m afraid they have an inadequate amount of material. I basically looked at the 1st page and bookmarked 1 or 2 pages that seemed to have good information ( will read it this week or next)

3) I desperately need help on economics. A teacher gave me the economics textbook abut I find it to take too long and it to be very very dull. Anyone know of a fast( 10 hours or so) way to learn enough economics to wreck aca deca?

4) I’ve read the plays. I reread Oedipus and did an essay this break nad plan on oing same for Antigone today. Anything inthe plays I should pay special attention to (aca deca asks very picky questions a lot)? What do they look for especially in essays? And for the smaller works(plays, Iliad and Plato), what should I do? I’ve read the stuff but I’m not sure what I should pay attention too. Shoud I just memorize the study guide for that too?

5) I am having a hard time making a speech. I want to do it about science and why it’s so kewl. I’d mention it would help you grow, biology helps u fall in love w/ natural world, physics helps you make connections, and chemistry stretched your mind, frustrates, and humbles me. Also, I stink at impromptu( and communication in general). anyone know of a way I can improve (interview is sub par too)?

6) Math. I 4got a lot of the math they are testing( I’m in pre cal now and took everything they are testing). anyone know of a fast way to review? I basically need formulas and ways to do esoteric structures ie) matrices.Any idiosyncracies about the test would also help

7) Super Quiz I think I got. I essentially defined the terms and outlined all the general information. Anything here I should pay attention too(specific information I should focus on, etc). Please answer if u went to the practice meet this year

sorry for long post, but I really want there to be something useful(like medaling) to come from all the time I put into this… any help would be appreciated,
