Anyody know the academic index conversion chart for ib students?

Not sure I understand the question. My student-athlete is an IB candidate, but there is no separate AI conversion. He gets a boost from his grades being weighted, which helps his class rank, which accounts for 1/3 of his AI.

Atlete for ivy schools are eligible based on the academic index, which provides a numeric equivalente for the GPA sat and sat II scores. I have only seen academic index calculators based on the 4.0 scale or class rank, but not for ib grades, which are not on a 4.0 system.

I’m guessing here, but I suppose you could take your IB gpa (out of 7, correct?), divide that number by 7 and multiply the result by 4 to arrive at a converted 4.0 gpa score. So a 6.2 IB would be a 3.5.

Class rank would obviously be preferable if that’s available.

In my school it’s different.
7+ A+ 4.6
7 A+ 4.4
7- A 4.2
6+ A 4.0

etc etc, as in my school it is extremely different to get in the 7 range. So it probably depends on what school you go to and what their conversion to the 4.0 scale is.

Son’s school does not calculate class rank or gpa, and uses the IB scale for all assessment. He was given the following letter/ gpa conversion for the IB points from Ivy/ DIII schools based on a 4.0 scale:
7 = A+ 4.0
6 = A 4.0
5 = B+ 3.5
4 = B-/C+ 3.0

.5 to 1 point could be added for weighted. IB is usually 6 subjects plus TOK/EE. 36/42 subject points (ie not including the 3 possible for TOK/EE) is an “A” average/ 4.0. Based on the IB world scale, less than 5% will score above 40 total points worldwide. Though the 5% worldwide is not a class rank, if within this range, it seemed to add even more points to the AI for rigor.

@trackpop,
Does anyone knows how this Academic Index is calculated? I read a book where it states that 1/3 is based on SAT (Reading & Math), 1/3 is based on SAT subject tests and 1/3 is based on class rank. It didn’t talk about SAT writing score. That book was 10 year old book, writing was not required then. Not sure how SAT Writing is included in this AI calculation. Is Writing considered as one of the Subjects like other SAT subjects? If so what if a students has taken 3 subjects and score there better than SAT writing? Does anyone knows?

Thanks for reading and replying.

Just use the M and CR portions of the SAT I - omit the writing in calculating the AI
