Would an unofficial speech and debate coach count as an academic reference? My son is homeschooled and has mainly taken dual credit classes starting his junior year. He hasn’t gotten to know the professors very well. He is very active in speech and debate and competes in tournaments. Would a recommendation from one of the parent leaders of the club count as an academic reference? She does teach the club.
We thought of a math teacher my son had for two years in a homeschool class. She was a NASA engineer and has a master’s from MIT, as well as three high school grads of her own who have applied to and attended college, so she can probably write a well written recommendation.
