Academic Regalia Questions

I am getting an MA in TESOL right now. I noticed my university gives education-light blue hoods at graduation. I don’t understand why this is. The degree is offered by the college of arts ans sciences and not by education. Most schools who offer this degree will present a white hood. The lead professor has a doctorate in language education, is this why?

Regardless of what college at your university awards the degree, an education colored hood does, in my opinion, make the most sense in terms of what color the hood should be for TESOL degrees.

I’m not at all a regalia expert but know that the hood trimming color is dictated by subject, not degree or school. There are many subjects in an undergraduate or graduate school of arts & sciences, and many different color hood trimmings. And the light blue looks good in any case.

And even then, not every school adheres to the hood coloring differences, particularly with rentals. When I got my PhD in public health last year, I walked with a light blue hood too. All of the doctoral candidates had light blue hoods even though we were all in different fields.
