To Whom this may concern;
My name is [Name and Student ID] I am e-mailing in regards to my academic suspension, and in hopes that the university will reconsider my suspension. I have just finished my third year at [University], and plan to graduate in the spring of 2014. I would like to encourage you to reinstate me for the fall 2013 semester.
What resulted in the drop in my GPA was my failure to focus on classes that I struggled the most. This semester I also had a lot going on personally. This semester I was attacked and it resulted in many legal proceedings that took a lot of my focus away from my schoolwork. Unfortunately this resulted in myself falling behind in my courses and by the time I had realized how behind I was it was too late in the semester. I know I should have communicated with my professors and the university, but I didn’t want to make excuses. I thought I could keep everything under control.
I am currently registered to take summer courses at my community college with the approval of my advisor prior to my notice of academic suspension. I failed in STATS 211 and POLS 300. Prior to being informed of my academic standing I had enrolled in STATS 211 for the fall semester in hopes of repeating the course to raise my GPA. I also plan to re-take POLS 300 in the spring to keep me on track to graduate as well as improve my GPA. If reinstated I will focus more on my schoolwork, and communicate better with my professors and the university. Thankfully all legal proceedings have been completed, so I will not be distracted and will be able to put 100 percent into my schoolwork.
I believe that I can get above a 2.0 GPA by December 2013. With my current GPA being 1.922 I was registered to take 18 credits for the fall term and with the degree works calculator I would need a 2.476 to get a 2.0 by December 2013. I believe this is completely plausible. A 2.476 is what I would need in the fall, however with the twelve credits I am currently taking I would need a 2.254 to get a 2.0 GPA by December 2013. One of the several ways I plan to improve my GPA would be by being more active in class discussion and asking for help when needed. I believe that getting direct feedback from my professors will drastically help me in understanding the material and where I am going wrong. Another way in which I plan to improve my GPA, is by employing a tutor for the course I am struggling in as well as through making sure I handle my personal circumstances in a manner that will not distract me from my work. My main goal for the fall is to communicate more effectively and manage my time wisely. I believe that if my plan is implemented properly I can raise my GPA to above a 2.0 by December 2013.
Please understand that my low GPA, which led to my suspension, does not mean I am a bad student. I want to stress that am I am a good student who had a horrible semester. I hope you will give me the chance to prove this to you and the university. I am very upset with the situation I put myself in and would love a second chance to prove I am a hardworking student who deserves to attend and graduate from [University Name].
Thank you for considering this appeal.
Sincerely,
