To whom this may concern:
I am writing this letter to appeal my recent dismissal from the College of Exercise
and Health Sciences due to my fallen GPA. I understand that a cumulative GPA below
2.5 is unacceptable in the College of Exercise and Health Sciences, and that my 2.38 is
no exception, however I am sure that if given a second chance I am capable of bringing
my GPA back up to standard. I am not one to give excuses for my shortcomings, but
this semester was an especially difficult one for me not only academically but
personally.
Being able to identify the reasons for the way my semester turned out quickly
allowed me to make adjustments so that similar results would not occur in the future. An
example of this would be my work schedule and the way it interfered with school for me.
I was in between quite a few jobs throughout the span of this semester and a lot of that
time meant I was rotating and trying out different schedules based on my employers’
needs rather than my own. I have found a job with a lot of flexibility in the schedule, so
that I am able to base it off my own schedule and change it in accordance to my needs.
I understand that as important as a job is, my education and success does not come
second to anything.
In addition to this, throughout a majority of the semester as I struggled with
specific courses, I was unaware of the resources that were available to me. It was
towards the end of the semester that I began to take advantage of these resources,
such as tutoring. I saw a significant difference in my success in those classes, and if I
had taken advantage of said resources sooner, I know it would have added to my
success. Knowing that I have tutoring available to me, I plan on taking advantage of it
from the very beginning of the semester as a supplement to my courses rather than as
a plan to save my grade towards the end.
There is no other academic path that suits my career choice as well as the
College of Exercise and Health Sciences does. I have invested a lot of time and effort
and am willing to continue to do so. Being given a second chance, I would not allow it to
go to waste and would instead take full advantage of every opportunity. Although I
believe these changes will factor into my success, I also understand that as I advance in
this college, its courses will become more and more demanding. Despite this, I will put
my schoolwork before anything else and do as much as I can so that I perform to the
best of my capability at all times.
I hope you consider this appeal and find that I am deserving of another chance at
not only my desired major, but also at my desired future of working in a career of the
health sciences. If I am granted this opportunity, I will undoubtedly prove that it was not
given to the wrong person.
