Academic thresholds for Legacy / Athlete

My daughter is beginning ACT prep for the April and June exams and I’m wondering what the threshold academic expectations for admission would be for a legacy (me - CALS undergraduate) and recruited athlete. By the end of this year (junior), she likely will have a 3.5 GPA at a well-respected West coast public school, 3 AP tests (3s & 4s), a summer internship in her field of interest, and a lot of time, effort, and accolades in sport. Assume ED application to either CALS or A&S as well. I know the GPA and APs are lowish for Cornell, so I’m wondering mainly what she will have to pull on the ACT to stay on the admissions (and coaches) radar. She hasn’t asked the coach this question directly yet, but knows that may be the best source of info, and will soon. Thanks!

The Ivy and NESCAC recruiting can be a different animal. Frankly it depends on how valuable a player your daughter is to the potential team. The better she is, the more room to give on the academic side. If she’s anywhere recruitable, you should steer her to beyond Cornell however. Peruse the Athetic Recruits forum. Lots of valuable info there.

GL to your family!

Thanks, T26E4. I’ll have a look. Staying away from most D1 recruiting because she doesn’t want to be an athlete-student, but the other way around. Ivies and DIII seem the most practical for that and she already has multiple DIII assurances of a roster spot (not that that means she can play anywhere). Just trying to figure out how much time, energy, and hope to devote to high reach schools. We’ll keep learning and adjusting as she gets more feedback from tests and coaches.

@BajaJoe13‌ they wont see her AP scores - just that she took the class and her average in it

Thanks thegrant. Hadn’t thought about that, but makes sense. AP grades are very solid, so that helps.
