what is the academic atmosphere like at brown? Also, do a lot of people experiment with drugs at brown?

Heard that a lot of people do pot…but then again, I am not sure

You’ll find that at a lot of the colleges and universities.

I’ve heard about the pot too.

Meh, the pot thing is a fairly uninformative stereotype. Yes, it is here. Yes, it is more visible than at some other schools because it is kind of tolerated. But none of my friends smoke up on any regular basis, and I think that’s the norm.

The only way to really tell is to visit extensively and decide for yourself.

According to an anonymous random poll conducted by the herald, about 33% of Brown students have smoked pot in the past month. The next closest drug was cocaine at 2.3%

33%? that sounds like my high school…probably a bit lower than my high school, actually.

Well, what can you say, Vancouver, BC, world capital of pot. BC Bud is good stuff

Pot…around and tolerated, for the most part. Other drugs…easy to find but not visible.

Academic atmosphere is whatever you want it to be.

33% is pretty weak for canada. you guys don’t have an excuse for those low numbers-- it’s legal.

lucky canadians :(

ILikeDice, s light clarification. I did a major project on drugs, and here are the facts:

1) In British Columbia, pot is theoretically illegal. However, legal precedent has made impossible the prosecution for cannabis posession below 15 grams. (At street price of $10, that is about $150 worth of pot). So, if the cops saw you smoking pot, you are mostly just ignored, if you are not doing it in public places.

2) 33% would indeed be pretty weak. Actually, very weak. However, my figure is for the percentage of regular users…NOTE…regular users, not “smoked in the last one month,” i.e. recreational usage at parties and social functions. And it would actually still be a bit higher, more like close to 40%.

3) For recreational use, at my school if would be close to 70-80%.

Haha… all in good spirits.
