Okay, right now im a Soph. in Highschool, and I am really determined to get into MIT, Stanford, Princeton, UPenn etc.
I have a few Qs:
When applying to college do you apply to the department in the college or the whole college itself?
Is it easier to get into different colleges based on the major? (ex. Going to Harvard for Math compared to Law)
What is the acceptance rate for MIT Sloan (undergrad)? With EA?
Im Asian [Indian] and what impact will that make? (I know race plays a big role)
(Also [If you want to]) To get into these top colleges I know grades, GPA, SATs, Essays, Community Service, Awards, Clubs, and like Officers in those Clubs are important, but what else looks good on Resume?

Thanks! If you answers you will make my day! :)

EDIT:
Another Q:
When writing an essay to colleges, do you have to write a new one for every singe college?

It depends on the school. For MIT, you apply to MIT and not to the department or college, and MIT doesn’t admit by major. It’s no easier to get into MIT for one major than for another, because MIT knows that many students change what they want to major in by the time they finish college.

For some other schools, admission is done by major or by college, and it is easier to be admitted for some majors than for others.

I wouldn’t say race plays a big role – it’s not as if no Asian students are admitted to MIT, by a long shot.

You can check out the decisions threads for the past two years (stickied at the top of this MIT forum) to see what kinds of students MIT has admitted in recent years.
Depends on the application. Often you’ll find that an essay written for one school can be tweaked to fit another school’s prompt.

My only caveat is that these are overall acceptance rates. For US applicants, the number is actually a bit higher, and for international applicants significantly lower. Internationals cannot apply EA, only RD, and the admit rate last year was 3.38%. For internationals applying from India, I suspect that it was lower again than that, given the large number of Indian applicants.

Just to make things clear, there is no acceptance rate for MIT Sloan. There is an acceptance rate for MIT. Some of these students then study at Sloan. You can’t apply or be accepted specifically to Sloan.

Of course, la montagne is talking (as we all are in this question) about an UNDERGRADUATE degree at Sloan. If you wish to take an MBA at Sloan then you do in fact apply directly to Sloan and none of what we are talking about here holds true.
