I just received my waitlist letter…and I’m pretty disappointed because I thought I was a pretty strong candidate. One thing that stood out on my letter is this sentence: “This year Georgetown considered over 19,500 candidates for an entering class of 1,580 first-year students.” This is an 8% acceptance rate, which is nowhere near its normal 16-18%. I have read past posts on their site and it says that on this page:

<a href=“Number of Applications for Class of 2017 Holds Steady - Georgetown University”>http://www.georgetown.edu/news/undergraduate-applications-class-of-2017.html

“The university admitted 3,293 students for an admission rate of 16.6 percent, a similar selectivity rate as last year.”

Can anyone explain this? Are the other 1700 other admits from Early action? I am confused and a bit angry at this.
